After all the fun build up and the years of waiting, the Gilbert temple is finally open for business! By the time the dedication rolled around, I was more than ready for it to be closed to the public and open for sessions.
The Saturday night before over 12,000 youth in the temple district put together an amazing Cultural Celebration. Dustin was given tickets and we decided that despite the call for rain, we would attend.
I am so glad we did. The rain started about 30 minutes before the production and right when the Prophet pulled up and President Eyring gave his opening remarks, the skies cleared. And then after that it poured buckets. We luckily had blankets, umbrellas and a tarp but the spirit was so strong as those youth sang their hearts out despite being cold and drenched.
The next morning we were up bright and early to attend the dedication. A blessing from Dustin's calling is that we got tickets to actually be in the temple for the dedication.
I told Ellie she had to be sealed in Celestial Room 7 since that is the room we were in. It was such a wonderful morning to be in the temple with my family, and I cannot wait until we are all inside it again.
My parents were temple workers in the Seoul, Korea temple and my grandparents served in the Idaho Falls temple. I hope someday Dustin and I will be able to serve in the Gilbert temple, which I now think of as "our temple." What a blessing to have a temple just 5 minutes away.
